And one more makes 5

Grand Duchess is here.

We woke up at 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The kids slept at a friend's house. We drove for the hour and half that it takes to get there & checked in a little early. When I got to the hospital I was dialated to a 6 - so I guess it's a good thing that I was being induced.

I got my epidural (Ah, drugs) but unfortunately it didn't work as well as I had hoped it would. I felt EVERY contraction and my feet and legs never got numb. This was all new to me and something very unexpected. I was extremely fearful for the pain I would feel while pushing, but luckily, the drugs worked mostly there than anywhere else. While I still felt pain during pushing, it was manageable. And to those of you who think I'm a wimp for wanting drugs and hating feeling the pain, I don't care. I think you're crazy to go without it.

Anyway. The pitocin was started at 7:30 in the morning and Duchess made her grand entrance at 12:02 in the afternoon - just in time for lunch! Popeye guessed her weight while we were in the car at 7 pounds 12 ounces - and he was right. The doctor said, "Let's have a baby at 12:07." And she was off by 5 minutes. My water was ruptured at 10:30 and I told the doctor, "Okay, an hour and half from now we'll have a baby." I was right on with that one, too. Kinda cool.

So - here's the lowdown. She was 7# 12 oz. and 19 1/2 inches long. She's a bit yellow, but we're going to watch that. She barely cries and caught onto nursing right away. I think she's beautiful!

Here are some pics.
Yeah, I told you she was cute. And I look pretty good, too, huh? Just kidding. I look horrible but am feeling pretty good.

What a sweetie! I think people who go natural are crazy as well. And those docs up there must go light on the meds or something because I felt every contraction too, and I had the drugs. She's a doll and I can't wait to meet her!

Oh, she's a doll! And you look amazing! Congrats, and I'm glad the drugs worked at least somewhat for you! I'm a big believer in epidurals, too. :-D

Such a beautiful family! You look really good after having a baby -- you don't even look like you just went through hours of labor... lol! Just to defend my weirdness of not using drugs -- it was for health issues. The doctor would allow it for either delivery; I would have preferred the drugs. ;)

Hey, if I looked that good after having a baby I would brag about! Surgery is just a little different though because you've been lying on the bed, you're hair has had a really nice cap on it, and I think you're right. She is beautiful.

No, you two BOTH really do look beautiful! (I'm so glad to know that you and popeye atleast get a date when you're having a baby! That's better than nothing. I'm so sorry that babysitters are hard to come by there. Move here, and I'll watch all your kids once a month so that you guys can go out. Problem solved.

YEAH!!! Welcome to the world, Grand Duchess! And congratulations to you all, S----- Family! She's beautiful, and you don't look at all like you just squeezed a baby out in that photo! Not fair ... :)

I love that you and Popeye were right on about her stats and arrival time - guess experience is a great teacher!

I saw your blog link from your post on cafe mom and thought I'd check it out. You are not a wimp for getting an epidural, or at least if you are then I am too. haha. Sorry it didn't work as well as you thought, but you have a gorgeous baby! Congratulations again.

She's gorgeous! Just like you! I wish I looked like you any day, and especially right after having a baby! You have the slimmest face of any pregnant lady I have seen. My head just looks like a pumpkin sitting on fat shoulders lol!
