... I walked into my house and heard water. I thought, "Oh crap - the washing machine is busted!" Since I was doing laundry and the only other flood I've had a run in with was laundry related - it was a natural reaction.
And then I turned the corner into my living room and saw a waterfall coming from the ceiling in between the living and dining rooms. And then as shock was about to set in, the floor guy emerged from the dining room, half soaked and out of breath.
Seems he had been working on replacing the floor in the upstairs bathroom and had accidentally busted a pipe when laying the subflooring. He ran downstairs, found the basement door and ran to shut of the water. The shut off valve had no handle so he ran to his truck and grabbed a wrench, ran back downstairs and shut it off. And that's when I came in.
So, the landlady came over and helped assess the damage. Service Master came over to start cleaning up (making a bigger) mess. He pulled up the carpet, threw away the padding, scraped plaster from the ceiling and walls, cleaned up that plastery mess and then re-stapled the carpet down. He positioned fans everywhere and now it sounds like we live in a wind tunnel - because, well, we do.
All my artwork and photos are stacked in the kitchen along with miscellaneous other boxes. My office - which was just about done being unpacked is now home to my (hopefully not broken because it was sitting under the waterfall) Dyson, china cabinet, blanket-filled hope chest, dining chairs and 3 boxes of piano books. Luckily the water stopped 2 feet shy of the piano so we didn't need to move that.
And it will remain this way for 3 more days at least.
So we got to try some local cuisine and can I just say, that was The Best bacon cheeseburger I've had in a REALLY long time. Not too greasy and cooked just right. Love that. The kids all finished their food and were on their best behavior - even better! So I ran by the grocery store and picked up a cheesecake. A great way to end the day.
So - there you have it.
In other news, Popeye and I went to a Love & Logic class last night. They hold them once a month and teach at least one module a class. It was SUPER informative and made me feel like I just might have a chance at gaining control of my children! Now the kids know what to look out for - the phrases, "Uh Oh" and "Nooo problem". Lovin' the fear in their faces as they think about what the consequence of their actions might be. :) Thor is catching on quickly.
And I haven't yelled all day long. BLISS!

Natalie, you are a woman of iron. Stay strong. Miss you. I cannot believe it was a year ago you left Sidney.
We took the love and logic classes. They were actually pretty helpful. I had my doubts in the beginning but we changed them a little to fit us and have been very happy. Good luck!
What an adventure, Natalie! I'm so glad that more things weren't damaged in this escapade. Hope all returns to "normal" soon!
oye, what a mess! Sounds like you have a positive attitude, way to go girl!
