It doesn't happen a whole lot. I'm a pretty good cook, really. Today I even COOKED a dinner. Not just some frozen lasagne into the oven type dinner, either. (I'm known to do that frequently.) I had my meat thawing in the refrigerator, got all my sides together, the kids home from school and playing happily downstairs. It was ALL good.
I started making my meal. I've made it before with no mishaps. Yummy porcupine meatballs. Say it with me, "Mmmm mmm."
I tweaked the recipe just a little (instead of using tomato soup, I used ketchup and brown sugar) thinking that the tweaking wouldn't hurt it at all.
Evidently it did. Because the rice was SOOOO crunchy. Eeew.
So I got the kids eating the side dishes but we were all so hungry still. I called Popeye and told him about the ickiness of it and he agreed that burgers from McDonald's would be a good substitute.
And it was.
So, in light of the Christmas season, what is a dish you've botched and what did you do to rectify the sitch?

I botched dinner

I was wondering how close my SIL would be to you. How awesome that they'll be in your ward!
Oh, and either Ann or Leah is fine. :)
My favorite is the first time I ever made Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. I was probably 11, and didn't read the package instructions first, thus I immediately combined all the ingredients and brought them to a boil. Obviously, when I drained the pasta, all the orangey-cheese sauce went down the drain as well. My mom rectified the situation by making a quick cheese sauce from scratch and it tasted much better than from-the-box.
I bought that pancake mix where you just add water. I filled it up with water to the line and shook the bottle like the instructions said. But after doing so the batter looked way too clumpy. So I added more water. BIG MISTAKE!! When I poured out the batter is was like water. I thought the pancakes would still turn out, but oh no. They burned. Yes everyone. I burned pancakes. So, our remedy, like yours, was McDonald's. This was when we lived in Nebraska and there weren't many options for eating out. Oh, well. We all burn dinner, even pancakes.
About the fudge. I know you said you have tried tons of recipes. But Dusty and I always use the recipe on the back of the Marshmallow Puff bottle and it is always very creamy. Maybe you have already tried it, but I thought I would share.
