Have you ever been in a ward where the bishopric is about to change - drastically? Not just one or two counselors, but the whole clan?
Well, I am in such a ward right now. Popeye & I couldn't help but chuckle (and laugh hysterically after church was over) watching some of the "presidential candidates" on Sunday. Shaking hands, going down each aisle - one candidate on one side, the other going down the other side. Popeye almost lifted up Grand Duchess for a kiss, but he refrained. He even saw one of them wink and shoot the gun at someone in the back of the chapel.
As I was walking out of the bathroom, One was standing there, almost as if he was waiting for me to exit so he could greet me. I'm sure it was just a coincidence and bad timing on both our parts, but still.
Whoever the next bishop will be, I'm sure he'll do a fine job. It's just a funny scenario to watch right now.
And I'm not even going to be around for the outcome! Popeye will be leaving for a week that day, so I'll be at the airport dropping him off (and picking up a much loved friend).
Dagnabbit, I was hoping to watch the confetti fall and partake of the celebratory lunch afterward.

Too funny!
Our ward is just the opposite. When a "big" calling is needing to be filled, people scatter like roaches. If they see a priesthood authority in the hall, they run the other way.
oh thats too funny and sometimes true with those kind of callings. Good luck with that in your ward
What the heck? Um, they usually aim for the more humble guys... so no matter how much "struttin'" they put out, hopefully ... you know, I can't even finish that thought cuz I am SO GOSH DANG EXCITED to see you again!!!
You crack me up!!!! And can I just say, since I lived in that ward, that I am certain that what you say is true. I am also confident that I could name off said candidates (Mr. LM Syndrome, Mr. WC, Mr. BHOTH, etc.)Don't worry I didn't use their real initails. I will email you later with what those names mean :).
But really, I think that Heavenly Father would be very annoyed to see such behavior. Really?? Don't pretend to like me and want to say hi to me at church just because you think you will earn points. The Lord doesn't offer points...never has, never will. It's a shame that this happens. I am just happy to see someone finally come out and call them on it.
You and I are too much alike.
Love you.
Wow, this is a sacred thing! Taking these things so lightly and painting them with your own consciousness and simple awareness will only stand to put you on shakey footing. The bishop calling is one of the lords annointed callings and when we mock God and his dealings it surely hurts nobody more than us. I don't know whom is spoken of in these abbreviations but I do know that the men in This ward are my brethern in the priesthood and I will not stand to hear of any of them being mocked. Leastwise not for putting forth a hand or offering a smile or kind word to another in the house of the lord. If you call yourself a memeber then unite with all who come to partake of HIS gospel and rebuke not lest ye be rebuked by him. Pretty shakey ground to try to stand on ladies!
My dad was just released as Bishop, and it's been funny watching the transition. Especially the ward members who forget and continue to try and make appointments to see him or turn their tithing over to his keeping.
