Comin' out of the 80's

Thor was born bald. Well, almost bald. He had some hair in the back. So really, he was born with a slight mullet. And it has driven Popeye crazy ever since.

Now, I find it kind of funny that an 80's hairstyle would drive my husband crazy, just because he still kinda has the 80's mentality and thinks it's okay to have brass fixtures, listens to his 80's heavy metal religiously & if it weren't for me, would still be wearing the clothing fashion of that time period. But he draws the line at mullets, evidently.

Now, interestingly enough, there are still people out there sporting this hideous hairdo - er - hair DON'T. We saw some the other day & Alison saw a WOMAN with one today at WalMart. And I know of one famous person who still sports this style. Dawg the Bounty Hunter. And there are some other famous individuals who used to sport this hair style & (thankfully) have stopped. Here are some pictures of Dawg, Billy Ray Cyrus, Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister, John Stamos, Bono & Rod Stewart.

Now, I am SO happy that it just isn't IN anymore, but Thor's hair really didn't bother me. In fact, I used to soothe myself -er- him by running my fingers through his mullet. Thor doesn't have a whole lot of hair on top still, but the back - wow, it has grown. But it's just so soft. And as all you mother's of little boys know, once you start cutting their hair, the softness eventually gets cut away & it becomes thick & coarse. Well, that's what happens for MY boys.

So today Popeye got out the trimmer. As I sat on the floor taking pictures, I remembered each of my childrens' first haircuts - except Optimus Prime, for some reason I can't remember his. Anyway. I remembered Mr. Fantastic giggling through the whole thing as I said, "tickle tickle!". Princess Monkey Eyes was only 2 months old and so that experience was unfortunate to say the least. And now it was Thor's turn.

He sat on the floor. And he didn't like that trimmer. He cried. He didn't scream. But he cried. And then when the pile of hair was on the floor next to him, he freaked out. He REALLY didn't like that. But now the mullet is gone & his cute, little, round head is exposed even more to the elements. Which some would say is fine now that it's warmer out. But who knows if it's going to stay warmer out, what with the snow in May. All the winter things are put away - I hope he won't be needing a snow hat anytime soon.

Here are some pics!

Before...

I tried to preoccupy him with the camera - he took this picture...

The finished product...

See how great the back looks now? I urge you ALL, if you know someone who has a mullet, tell them to cut it off. Tell them it isn't as cool as they think it is. We should all try to rid the world of this atrocity!

LOL! :D

I just kept thinking about Macgyver.... Awwwwwwww. Dreamy!

Your little guy's looks way better after than my little boy's haircut looked after I did it. :S

I must say, though, that some mullets look better than others.... (hee hee) :)

I agree - the mullet is no good. Ditto to comb-overs (you know, when a guy tries to cover his baldness by growing one side of his hair REALLY long and 'combimg it over'). Jason is going bald gracefully ... he shaves it all off! I love your new blog layout - super cute!
