Conference Weekend

Yesterday Popeye was supposed to head to Cheyenne for his standard drill. He left at 5:30 in the morning, knowing there was a storm coming but hoping it would miss us. He got to Pine Bluffs, WY and called me. The roads were icy (a huge contrast to our roads here, which were still clear) and he was afraid of what might lay ahead. I gave him my opinion that, if he had stopped and was unsure if he should continue on, that was probably the Spirit telling him not to. After about 10 minutes, he called me back and told me he was on his way home. I told him that it had started snowing.

And good thing he came back, too! The interstates were shut down and this blizzard left quite a bit of snow in its wake. Check it!

Our trash can is under there somewhere. And we had quite the time opening the door to throw away the garbage. The snow was at least a fourth of the way up the door, if not more. And don't even ask me where the snow shovel is. Last I saw it, the kids were playing with it & knowing our luck, it's probably under that drift right there. COOOOOOLD.

So Popeye was home, we were warm & were gearing up to watch the morning session of conference when the satellite went out. It finally came back on for the afternoon session, which I slept through (oops). And then last night, just as the kids were about to head to bed, the power went out. I actually like the darkness of it all, but the kids didn't. So, as Mr. Fantastic lay asleep on the couch and the rest of the munchkins still awake and scared, Optimus Prime asked me to tell them stories of Jesus.

We started with the birth of Christ and talked about all the many miracles he performed while on the earth. We sang primary songs and Popeye offered a prayer. When we were gearing down for the night and Thor started relaxing on my lap a little more, I sang a few songs to the kids about Christ ("His Hands" and "I Heard Him Come"). We gave the kids a few extra blankets and then tucked everyone in.

I think the power outage ended around 2:30 this morning, but I can't be sure. So now we're getting ready to watch conference on tv. Our traditional "conference big breakfast" has been consumed and I'm listening to "The Spoken Word" as I type this. I'm looking forward to a quiet day inside and hoping that the sun will melt enough snow for me to find my shovel...
