So Thursday was a crazy day. I was supposed to go and spend the day with my "girlies" and learn how to can peaches over at 'Culinary Queen's' house. But I didn't. Instead I worked and spent all day (or what seemed like all day) in my van driving back & forth, to & fro. So I didn't get over there to can.
Last night, however, my half bushel of peaches was delivered to me. I had previously called my mother and she gave me instruction for the actual 'how-to' of canning. Seeing as I've canned only once before in my life, and even then it wasn't a start to finish project, I would've like to have gone out with my girlies to can. After all, in the words of RS President, "Canning just isn't fun unless you do it with someone."
So today I canned my peaches. By myself. And I had a wonderful time! Did I do it right? I hope so. I followed all the instructions that my mother gave me. But I didn't hang out in the kitchen afterward long enough to hear them sealing. So, hopefully they sealed right. I DID hear some sucking sounds when I brought them out of the water bath. I hope that's a good thing.
And you know what? I don't even like peaches. Really, I don't. I don't like the fuzz of fresh peaches. I don't like the smell of peaches. I am not a huge fan of the taste, either. But while I was slicing them, I thought I'd be adventurous and taste one. It was so sweet & yummy! Now, I'm not saying it's my favorite fruit. But I'm glad that I canned them - for future usage, you know?
And that's me, all proud of myself.

They look great! I can't believe you don't like peaches, though... I love them!
WTG!!! I love peaches, but not the skin. And? I can't stand canned peaches... so there you go! lol! ;-) GOOD JOB!!!
Oh look at you! Awesome! How many quarts did you get?
I have a peach tree and every year it produces like it needs to be an orchard or something. I did 40 quarts, plus jam and fruit leather this year...and I gave away 6 bushel! Crazy! We love peaches at our house any way we can take them!
Our peach tree only gave us about 20 peaches, so forget the canning. We have just eaten most of them. Way to go with the canning. You are brave. I haven't ever tried.:) Love the baby bump, too cute! (I'm baby hungry.:O)
I don't really like peaches either, but I do like the awesome feeling I get after canning. I too have only done it once (strawberry jam - it was delicious!), and I too was pregnant at the time. Please tell me you were barefoot? Sometimes it's fun to live up to the cliche!
good job...those pictures look familiar!! Except...I didn't take one of me!
Lookin good momma! (Just thought I would say you look great) Any way I wish I was ambitious enough to can peaches. I love them. They really are my favorite.

Thank you for all the nice comments on my blog. My hubs loved the movie-he's not afraid of chick-flicks. Oh, and yes, dreamy actor.:)
You're awesome! ;-)
We love, LOVE peaches at our house. Well, 3 of the 5 of us, anyway.
Canning isn't my favorite thing to do, but I like doing it because it's productive and useful, and we love peaches.
It looks like you did a fabulous job. Way to go!! ;-D
