Today's tip of the day involves, liquor, guns & ammo.
Seriously.
I've been talking with my mom while being here in Denver for the day (Mr. Fantastic had a wonderful visit with his new audiologist). We have been talking about emergency preparedness - which is on her mind constantly. I always talk to her about it because she's so knowledgeable & really gets the fire going inside of me to go buy more food. That fire stays lit - until I look at my checkbook and think, "Uh huh. Like negative $20 is going to buy me 10 cans of green beans."
Anyway. In our talk this afternoon, we decided that it would be wise to stock up on liquor, guns & ammo. And this isn't just according to our own musings. She looked this stuff up on the internet - it must be true. Anyway. We decided that the guns and ammo are essential to protect the food storage & gear that we DO have. Because let's face it, when it's the end of the world, everyone knows it's the Mormons that will have all that stuff together (well, almost all mormons - I'm not included in that). And the alcohol is used for bartering.
So - if you see me at WalMart stocking up on scotch, beer & brandy - it's being used for food storage, not for making my sorrows go away. And if I see you at WalMart doing the same thing, I won't tell the bishop if you won't.

Oooh, oooh, oooh! We hadn't thought of that....
Guess we have some more work to do on our storage. ;-)
good thinking! Guess we aren't doing as well with our food storage as we thought....:]
LOL I would just laugh my butt off if I saw you with a bottle of liquor and 4 kids hanging off the cart!! We have plenty of alcohol we don't even DRINK so can I count that or does it have to be unopened to be bartering material? I'm not Mormon and we can survive for appx 3-4 days with what I have downstairs. Yay for me! ;) I need to start watching for good sales on canned goods to build that up tho. If life was cheaper, my supplies would look better. Ah, well, maybe next paycheck? ;) GOOD LUCK! :)
ha ha!! We have a bit...but not tons. We have 2 of the 3 covered in your post. I would feel so WEIRD buying booze!!!
Thanks for making me laugh!
Hey, this is Lisa (degsyuna) from CafeMom. I've been meaning to check out your blog forever, and I finally got around to it! :-)
I'll have to keep the alcohol thing in mind... Although, I feel a little uncomfortable getting caught buying Coke for my grandma at the store, much less liquor! Maybe I'll suggest this idea to my Relief Society, we could order it in bulk or something.
