It is Tuesday! Time for the tip of the week! (Sorry if you showed up last Tuesday for a tip, I just wasn't on the ball.) But I am today! As a matter of fact, I am SOO on the ball, that it is 3:00 in the morning! Ready to start my day - which list is CONSIDERABLY shorter than yesterday's list.
(And yes, Tiffany, I got the whole list done with the exception of calling my doctor about the Claritin. What's one day of Claritin going to do to the baby, right? But I'll call today to make sure.)
So, on to today's tip! Shall we do a cleaning tip? Discipline tip? Travelling tip? Home improvement tip? I've got 'em all! Decisions, decisions...
Drum roll, please! .........
It will be an odor eliminating tip!
Most people use baking soda in their refrigerators to keep the odors under control. Admit it, you have a box in there somewhere. But did you know that the odors only get absorbed by the surface area exposed to the air? For example: An opened box of baking soda will only have about 3 square inches (if that) exposed to the air. The odors will attach themselves to that exposed surface area, but no more. If you're really wanting to eliminate the odors in your fridge, spread out the baking soda onto a baking pan or cookie sheet, this will really get rid of that nasty Mu Goo Gai Pan meets deviled eggs meets hidden-behind-the-yogurt, sliced onion smell. Say it with me - EEEEEEEW!!!!
So go clean out your refrigerator. Shake that baking soda into a pan and let it set there for the afternoon. It will make your nose oh - so - happy! (And if your scents are as sensitive as mine are, or your fridge is nastier than mine was, you can be especially adventurous and use, instead of baking soda, the charcoal found at your local aquarium. You know, the stuff used in fish tank filters. That stuff works BETTER than baking soda. Kid you not.)
*You may wonder how I know this. Other than the fact that I AM all knowing, I was reminded of this fact from the Food Detective. He's really cool.*
Happy smelling!

They also have baking soda boxes you can buy where you peel off the sides of the box to leave a little mesh, which serves the same purpose (bigger surface area to absorb odors). I love baking soda and it is important at our house :)
I will try this tomorrow me thinks! Thanx! :)
I so need to clean out my refrigerator. :-S
I empty all the old stuff every week the day before garbage day, but I need to do the actually cleaning of the fridge itself - the shelves, the drawers, etc.
It's been a while.
Thanks for this tip!
Thanks for this great tip. I need to clean out my fridge first, before I have it smelling oh-so-wonderful. (Glad you got everything done.:O)
I left you an award on my blog.:O)
Cleaning the fridge is one of my all time least favorite household chores. Okay, I'll be honest, it's cleaning the kitchen! Other than keeping the dirty dishes under control and visible counter space clean; I pretty much avoid major kitchen cleaning. Luckily, Jason helps out - he's such a champ - so I will pass this Tuesday Tip on to him.
