At two o'clock this morning my answering machine picked up - but no one left a message.
I couldn't get back to sleep - so I came downstairs, paid some bills & did a little internet surfing.
At 4:30 the phone rang again & I almost didn't answer it, but being sleep deprived, my judgement was off, so I did.
And because I answered it, Popeye went to work early. Like, 7 hours early.
He got home at 2:00 this afternoon and will be home for the rest of the evening!
He got home at 2:00 this afternoon and will be home for the rest of the evening!
YAY!
Today Popeye turns 40. That's right folks, my hubby is 9 1/2 years older than me.
He was in 3rd (maybe 4th) grade when I was born.
He was just learning how to drive when I went into kindergarten.
He was in the Navy - just fresh out of high school - when I was going into the 4th grade.
He was going through the police academy when I started driving.
He was an established law enforcement officer by the time I got home from college.
He was about to be "kicked out" of the singles ward (for being too old) when I showed up and swept him off his feet.
Those first few statistics are a bit disturbing, no? But I wouldn't have it any other way.
So this weekend - in order to celebrate Popeye living this long (and I guess to celebrate his dad - Poopdeck Pappy - living this long), we will start the festivities tonight.
Chinese is on the menu for dinner with Strawberry Shortcake (the dessert, not the doll) for dessert. He also gets to open the presents I bought for him - which he should Lo-Ho-Hove!
Tomorrow we'll head to his Dad's house for more cake and a barbeque. His dad bought him a very nice present and I can't wait to see Popeye's face when he opens it. (Sorry Babe, it isn't a Harley. But I promise you'll love it.)
On Saturday he has drill and then he and I get to go on a date while the in-laws watch the munchkins. Can I just tell you how EXCITED I am to go on a date? Most couples continue dating after having kids. Not us. Our idea of a good time is Wednesday Night with an all-new episode of Ghost Hunters. The last time we actually went OUT, without kids, was on MY birthday to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, CO. I know, that was FOR-EVER ago! So I'm pretty excited to go to dinner with him. And then we'll head up to the Adult Session of Stake Conference. Some people would rather go to a movie or do another activity. But not us! He hasn't been to the adult session in YEARS because of his work schedule. So it will be quite enjoyable.
So that is what we're doing for Popeye's big 4-0 birthday! He's not the partying kind, so I didn't think he'd be comfortable with a surprise over-the-hill party. He'd be most happy with a new Harley sitting in the driveway - but that 'aint happenin' this year. Maybe for 50?!
So, Popeye - Happy Birthday! You are seriously the BEST husband and father. I love you!
